Abstract The pension system, together with the social assistance services form the social security system is recognized worldwide throughout the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for the purpose of insured person compensation for damages regarding some inherent risks as: permanent or temporary inability of work, old age or unemployment. Market risk in banking activity is becoming a more severe issue day by day for several reasons. Analysing it from a regulatory point of view is fundamental for assessing whether or not banks are in the conditions of disclosing a satisfactory degree of information about their market risk exposure. The two regulatory constraints to consider are International Accounting Standards (IAS/IFRS) and the Basel regulation. Both of them seem to put too many constraints on banks. Competitiveness remains a continuous concern of nations in any stage of development, from factor based economy to innovation based economy. The present paper aims to emphasize the current level of national competitiveness of Romania, on one hand, and to identify possible ways to improve the current level by building scenarios in order to eliminate the uncertainty, on the other hand.
